The 2011 Pirelli Calendar: Can Nude Models Sell Tires?
The 2011 Pirelli calendar was shot by famed photographer Karl Lagerfeld. |
In case you haven't bought your 2011 calendar yet, here's another one to consider: The 2011 Pirelli Calendar, now in its 38th edition, was created by famed photographer Karl Lagerfeld. Using mostly nude female models and a few nude males, Lagerfeld created "Mythology," a calendar that reflects Greek and Roman mythology, tales of the origins of humanity told through the adventures of gods and goddesses, heroes and heroines.
Largely the domain of female models (I guess because heterosexual men are more likely to pay attention to brands of tires), a number of muscular male models with six-pack abs were able to win roles and gain exposure in this year's calendar. It's sure to become a collector's item; after all, this Italian tire maker has for decades hired some of the world's most renowned photographers to create its annual calendar. You can even buy books that present the best work over the years (see below for discounted prices).
It's a lot more exciting than snow tires.

You seem to be unaware of a very important fact when you make your argument in this text. This calendar can not be bought. Pirelli gifts the calendar to their top customers in a very exclusive manner. So it is more of a PR move, creating buzz in the media about the brand name, than actually selling tires with these nude models like you would expect from a normal campaign. So in response to your opening line "In case you haven't bought your 2011 calendar yet"... readers, you can't buy it.
ReplyDeleteAA, thank you very much for making us aware of this. This is the point of a blog -- to share information so that we can all benefit. The "Aware" like you can help the "Unaware." So many thanks!
